Monogamy vs Open Relationship??
When you see the word monogamy and open relationship - most people tend to assume the worst concerning these words. I can assure you that these words are not meant to scare you or confuse you. Let's make it simple, shall we?
Let's talk about what is monogamy? It is defined as when you are married to, or in a sexual relationship with, one person at a time. Humans are one of the few species that practice monogamy. Well, sometimes. You may have heard of something called polygamy, which is having more than one spouse at a time but that's for another time somewhere down the road.
The picture says it all. Fred is in love with Jane because she is the ONE and the ONLY woman for him. Fred doesn't want to be with other people, so does Jane. They have eyes, heart, soul for each other, and they are currently in a monogamous relationship. They may either remain as a common in law couple or get married.
Now...let's change chairs here!
Well..well.. looks like Fred and Jane decided to change their relationship from a monogamous relationship to open relationship. What is it, you ask? Open relationship a marriage or relationship in which both partners agree that each may have sexual relations with others. It just means that Fred decided to add another woman in his life to have a sexual relationship WHILE being in a relationship with Jane.

However, it is important to note that not every couple are willing to go into an open relationship because it requires enormous amount of trust, compromise, understanding, and communication between all who are involved. Jealousy and mistrust is very common in an open relationship. Maintaining an open relationship is not easy. There may be instances wehre children are involved, and how do the parents deal with this concept? Oh, let's not confuse this with the famous show on TLC - "Sister Wives!" That show is based on the concept of polyamory in which will be discussed later on.
